Last night, after coming back from a bit of shopping, Ankit said we could just have some snacks because neither of us were hungry enough for a proper dinner. First we ate some idlis with ketchup, then we decided to fry some samosas and then I decided to make some spicy aloo chaat. For all those who don't understand "Aloo Chaat," it's a roadside tangy potato appetizer and is super duper yummy. It's very simple, fresh, healthy and can be whipped up in no time.
Here's how to make it:
Ingredients:
4 medium-sized potatoes
Half an onion finely chopped
1 tomato finely chopped
Half a bell pepper
Half a serrano pepper
Juice of half a lemon
Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
1 tsp olive oil
2 tsp paprika
2 tbsp chaat masala (available at any Indian store)
1 tsp of mango powder (amchoor)
Black salt/Rock salt to taste (kala namak)
Method:
1. Boil all the potatoes, peel and then chop them into tiny cubes.
2. In a bowl, put the chopped onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, and serrano pepper (Make sure they are very finely chopped because you don't want to taste big pieces, the star of the dish should still be the potatoes).
3. Add the olive oil to get it all moist and mix everything well.
4. Add paprika (you may add just 1 tsp if you cannot take a lot of spice), chaat masala, mango powder and black/rock salt. Mix everything well.
5. Now top it up with lemon juice, mix everything and garnish with some fresh cilantro leaves.
Enjoy a yummy potato chaat. It's great as an evening snack. The ingredients are fresh and healthy for you.
You may have it with a cup of chai (tea) or even on its own.
Try it!
Love!
